Two-Chamber Bat House (Cedar)

About this item

Two-Chamber Cedar Bat Habitat — Built for Hot-Climate Roosts Handcrafted from solid cedar, this two-chamber habitat holds up to 75 bats and gives a colony the warm, sheltered roost it looks for. Once bats move in, they work through mosquitoes and flying insects in your yard every night — no sprays involved. Two chambers, 75 bats. Bats roost in tight vertical crevices, not open cavities. Two chambers give a colony the depth it needs and a choice of temperature — they shift between them as the day heats up and cools down. Why cedar. Cedar resists rot and insulates well, holding interior temperatures steadier than thin plywood boxes manage. Left to weather, it greys down into something that looks at home on a barn wall or garden fence rather than bolted onto it. Rough-sawn interior. Every interior surface is grooved so bats can climb and hang securely. A smooth interior is the most common reason a habitat stays empty — bats cannot grip it. Matched to warm climates. The natural cedar finish reflects heat rather than absorbing it, which suits regions with hot summers. If your summers run cool, the black finish retains more warmth and is the better match. Honest about timing. Bats scout new roosts in spring and they are deliberate about it. Some habitats fill in the first season, others take two. Mounting height, sun exposure and distance to water matter more than anything else you can control — all three are covered below. MTBC-certified, built to last. Arrives fully assembled with mounting hardware and the Bat Conservation International siting guide. No expertise required. Direction: facing south or south-east, for 6–8 hours of direct sun. Mount to: a pole, or high on a wall or barn. Never the trunk of a shade tree. Clearance: keep branches, wires and other predator perches 20–25 ft away. Water: within about a quarter mile of a stream, pond or lake if you can. Pole length is not mounting height. A pole needs to be 16 ft or longer, because roughly 3 ft of it goes in the ground. Full instructions are in the Bat Conservation International guide included with your bat house.
