Pioneering AI & Biology: The Definitive Guide to Turing’s SciCode Scientific Coding Role with NVIDIA
Advanced STEM AI Training & Research

Discover how PhD and Master's biologists are collaborating with Turing and NVIDIA to build the industry's most rigorous scientific AI training benchmarks.

The modern artificial intelligence revolution has unlocked unprecedented capabilities across natural language processing and general coding tasks. However, training frontier AI models to master complex, multi-layered scientific domains—such as computational biology, biochemistry, and advanced bioinformatics—requires specialized, high-fidelity datasets that general text scrapers simply cannot provide. To bridge this gap, Turing has partnered with NVIDIA to build one of the most rigorous STEM AI training datasets in the technology sector through the flagship SciCode project.

This initiative invites elite scientific researchers, computational biologists, and STEM professionals to author, implement, and review complex scientific problems that evaluate how next-generation AI models reason, calculate, and solve real-world biological challenges.

About Turing and the SciCode Partnership with NVIDIA

Turing is a global pioneer in vetting top-tier technical talent and constructing advanced AI training infrastructure. Through strategic collaborations with industry giants like NVIDIA, Turing empowers domain experts to translate their real-world academic and professional expertise into structured evaluation benchmarks. The SciCode project specifically focuses on scientific coding, challenging AI systems to execute rigorous computational tasks with absolute precision and scientific correctness.

The Role Overview: What You Will Do

As a Scientific Coding Trainer specializing in Biology and Python, your core mandate is not routine data annotation. Instead, you operate as an algorithmic curriculum designer for artificial intelligence.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Problem Specification: Write rigorous scientific problem specifications consisting of one main problem and a minimum of three logically connected sub-problems that progressively build toward the main solution.
  • Golden Solutions: Implement verified golden solutions in Python with complete unit test coverage, utilizing libraries such as NumPy, SciPy, SymPy, or specialized domain tools.
  • Discriminative Test Cases: Design test cases that clearly differentiate correct model outputs from incorrect ones.
  • Quality Control (QC): Run QC validation checks on the Turing Central Task Platform (CTP), adhering to Tier 1 structure checks and Tier 2 quality rubrics.
  • Iterative Refinement: Iterate on tasks based on QC feedback to meet strict Pass@K evaluation criteria across multiple LLM judges (GPT, Gemini, Nemotron).

A Typical Day-to-Day Look

A typical workday combines deep scientific inquiry with clean software engineering. You might spend your morning drafting a multi-step biological simulation problem involving genetic sequence alignment or protein folding metrics. In the afternoon, you translate this problem into a robust Python script, writing comprehensive unit tests and edge-case verifications. You will also participate in sync calls, project standups, and review sessions during required overlap hours.

Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this elite technical environment, candidates must meet strict professional and academic criteria:

  • Educational Background: Master's or PhD in Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or closely related STEM fields.
  • Programming Proficiency: Strong Python programming skills with demonstrated experience in scientific computing and numerical libraries (NumPy, SciPy, SymPy).
  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to write well-posed scientific problems with clear constraints, determinism, and flawless scientific correctness.
  • Track Record: Published research or academic project experience in a STEM discipline, combined with meticulous attention to detail.

Perks of Working with Turing

Engaging with Turing on high-impact projects like SciCode provides unique professional advantages:

  • Cutting-Edge Exposure: Work at the bleeding edge of AI research alongside world-class infrastructure partners like NVIDIA.
  • Incomparable intellectual stimulation by converting complex academic research into foundational AI training data.
  • Complete remote flexibility, allowing you to collaborate with global teams from your home office.

Engagement Details & Operational Commitments

This is an 8-week remote contractor/freelance assignment. Selected experts are expected to commit 40 hours per week, with a required 4-hour daily overlap with Pacific Standard Time (PST). Eligible geographic locations include Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Interview Process and Onboarding Strategy

The selection process evaluates both your biological domain expertise and your Python coding capability through structured technical challenges. Once selected, completing thorough onboarding and executing your first 10 hours of work successfully is critical. Meeting these initial milestones ensures project stability, reduces rework rates, and unlocks access to advanced task tiers.
