About Turing and the Mission

Turing operates on a dual mission: partnering with premier AI labs to advance frontier model capabilities across reasoning, coding, STEM, multilingualism, and agentic behavior; and leveraging that expertise to build real-world AI systems for major commercial clients. Data Scientists and Analysts play an instrumental role in bridging raw datasets with sophisticated model training pipelines.

What Your Day-to-Day Looks Like

As a Data Scientist/Analyst at Turing, your daily responsibilities combine software engineering, rigorous data analysis, and model evaluation:

  • Model Training & Optimization: Design, develop, and maintain efficient, high-quality Python code to train and optimize cutting-edge AI models.
  • Benchmark Evals: Conduct comprehensive evaluations (Evals) to benchmark model performance and analyze results for continuous improvement.
  • Response Ranking & Rationale: Evaluate and rank AI model responses across diverse domains, formulating clear technical justifications and logical rationales in Jupyter notebooks or similar mediums.
  • Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT): Lead efforts in SFT by creating and maintaining high-quality, task-specific datasets.
  • RLHF Collaboration: Work alongside researchers and annotators to execute Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback and refine reward models.
  • Data Insight Generation: Leverage extensive data analysis skills to address critical business queries using available public datasets (Kaggle, UN, US government sources).
  • Peer Review: Conduct thorough code and documentation reviews, offering constructive feedback and maintaining rigorous quality standards.

Are You a Fit? Required Skills & Experience

Key Qualifications:

  • Core Expertise: Strong professional command of Python, Data Analysis, and Data Science methodologies.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Analytical Rigor: Exceptional business sense and problem-solving abilities to draw accurate conclusions from complex datasets and convey findings clearly.
  • Communication: Fluent conversational and written English communication skills to collaborate effectively with researchers and stakeholders.
  • Passion for AI: A strong desire to create a significant, lasting impact on the field of artificial intelligence.

Perks of Freelancing with Turing

Engaging with Turing as a contractor provides unique professional advantages:

  • 100% Remote Autonomy: Work from anywhere in the world without the constraints of a physical office.
  • Cutting-Edge Exposure: Work directly on pioneering AI projects alongside leading Large Language Model (LLM) companies.
  • Flexible Commitment Options: Choose from three weekly commitment structures (20 hours, 30 hours, or 40 hours per week) requiring a 4-hour daily overlap with PST.

Engagement Details & Timeline

This is a remote contractor assignment with a 1-month initial duration and an expected start date as early as next week. Successful candidates commit to at least 4 hours per day and a minimum of 20 hours per week.

The Evaluation Process & Onboarding Roadmap

Turing's structured evaluation process is designed to be efficient, lasting approximately 75 minutes total across two distinct rounds:

  1. Technical Round (60 minutes): Deep dive into your Python, data science, and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  2. Cultural & Offer Discussion (15 minutes): Alignment on goals, communication standards, and project expectations.

Crucial Onboarding Step: Upon passing the evaluation and completing onboarding, experts are advised to complete their first 10 hours of work promptly. Meeting this initial milestone ensures complete role stability, smooth workflow integration, and priority access to additional high-value tasks across Turing's network.
